Special categories of personal data and/or sensitive personal data that we process
Our website and/or service does not intend to collect data about website visitors under the age of 16, unless they have parental or guardian consent. However, we cannot verify whether a visitor is over 16. We therefore advise parents to be involved in their children’s online activities to prevent data about children from being collected without parental consent. If you believe that we have collected personal data about a minor without such consent, please contact us at privacy@memorypalace.be, and we will delete this information.

Cookies, or similar technologies, that we use
Het Geheugenpaleis VZW uses functional and analytical cookies. A cookie is a small text file that is stored in the browser of your computer, tablet or smartphone when you first visit this website. Het Geheugenpaleis VZW uses cookies with a purely technical function, which ensure that the website works properly and that, for example, your preferred settings are remembered.
An overview of our strictly necessary cookies, which are required for our website to function correctly:
wp-wpml_current_language
> Domain: .memorypalace.be
> Lifespan: 1 day
> Reason: This cookie stores the language code (e.g. ‘nl’ or ‘en’) of the current visitor. This enables the website to remember which language the pages should be displayed in when the visitor clicks through to another page. It also ensures that dynamic features (such as AJAX filters or forms) load in the correct language, even if your website uses page caching.
An overview of our analytical cookies, which are used to measure the use of our website anonymously:
VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE
> Domain: .youtube.com
> Lifespan: 180 days
> Reason: YouTube uses this cookie to estimate the visitor’s internet bandwidth. Based on this, the video player determines whether the video should be played in HD, 4K or a lower resolution. In addition, Google uses the unique ID in this cookie to remember the user’s viewing history and interests. This is used to display personalised video recommendations and targeted adverts on YouTube and other Google platforms.
YSC (YouTube Session Cookie)
> Domain: .youtube.com
> Lifetime: Session (this cookie is automatically deleted as soon as the visitor closes the tab or browser).
> Reason: This cookie tracks unique statistics on video views during the current website visit. It records which parts of the embedded video have been viewed and how often the play/pause button has been clicked. This ensures that interaction with the video player runs smoothly and that YouTube can detect fraud (such as the artificial inflation of views by bots).
GPS
> Domain: .youtube.com
> Lifespan: 30 minutes
> Reason: The abbreviation stands for Global Positioning System. When a website visitor opens the page via a mobile browser (such as Safari on an iPhone or Chrome on Android), this cookie records a unique ID. YouTube uses this to attempt to determine the mobile user’s geographical location. Google uses this location data to provide locally relevant adverts and recommendations.
When you first visited our website, we already informed you about these cookies and asked for your consent to place them.

View, edit or delete data
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data. In addition, you have the right to withdraw any consent you may have given for data processing or to object to the processing of your personal data by Het Geheugenpaleis VZW, and you have the right to data portability. This means that you can submit a request to us to send the personal data we hold about you in a computer file to you or to another organisation specified by you.
You can send a request to access, rectify, erase or transfer your personal data, or a request to withdraw your consent or object to the processing of your personal data, to privacy@memorypalace.be.
To ensure that the request for access has been made by you, we ask you to send a copy of your ID document along with the request. In this copy, please black out your passport photo, the MRZ (machine-readable zone, the strip of numbers at the bottom of the passport), your passport number and your national registration number. This is to protect your privacy. We will respond to your request as soon as possible, but within four weeks.
The Geheugenpaleis VZW would also like to inform you that you have the option of lodging a complaint with the national supervisory authority, the Dutch Data Protection Authority. You can do so via the following link: https://www.gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be/burger/acties/klacht-indienen
